Friends and Business Friends
Henley Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 50th anniversary. From the first concert held in 1970 in a borrowed marquee in Shiplake, HSO has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the leading amateur orchestras in the country.
To maintain this standard, HSO needs to perform in professional concert facilities which can accommodate our fifty musicians and our audiences - the Hexagon Theatre and Concert Hall in Reading, and on the Floating Stage at Henley Festival. These venues contrast very favourably to our early years when we performed in the former Regal cinema in Henley, school halls and the marquee at Shiplake College.
Since Ian Brown became our conductor over 20 years ago, we have played an increasingly demanding classical repertoire and have been able to attract world class soloists, including: John Lill, Tasmin Little, Stephen Isserlis, Evelyn Glennie, Stephen Hough, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Min Kym and Peter Donohoe.
Supporting the Orchestra
Ticket income only covers half of the cost of each season, so we need to fill the gap. We greatly appreciate the financial support of our local Friends and Business Friends who have been part of HSO’s success and, most essentially, provide a large audience to which to perform! By becoming a friend of the orchestra, you will receive benefits such as:
- Priority booking for the best seats
- Reserved tickets at reduced prices
- Notification by post of forthcoming concerts and other activities
- An invitation to attend an annual informal musical evening with refreshments
You can subscribe an amount of your choice, but there is a minimum annual fee to cover administration costs.
If you want to become a Friend and support the Orchestra, download the Friends' standing order form and Gift Aid form, then contact the Friends' Secretary, via the contact form or directly via email on hsofriends2020 @gmail.com
Our music making depends upon having a sound financial base. If your company would like to enrich the musical life of the Henley area, why not become a Business Friend?
You can help us in a number of ways, from small contributions to full sponsorship of concerts in exchange for publicity and entertainment facilities at our concerts.
For further information and the full application form, please contact our business friends' secretary, Emma Sieling, via the contact form.
